How to play

Every day there is one question and one answer board with ten ranked slots. Name all ten answers before you run out of lives.

The rules

Find a name to guess

Every puzzle offers name suggestions as soon as you type a letter β€” including movies, musicians, players, places and more. Choose a name to fill the input, then press Guess to submit it. Suggestions include names outside the top ten. Choosing or browsing a name uses no lives. If you cannot find a name, you can still type and submit your own guess. For a long list, keep typing to narrow the suggestions.

On a keyboard, use ↑ / ↓ to highlight a suggestion and Enter to fill it in. Press Enter again to submit, or Escape to close the list. For elements, you can search by name or chemical symbol.

Spelling is forgiving

The game accepts common short forms and small typos: USA, US and United States of America all count, and so does Man Utd for Manchester United. Accents, punctuation and a leading "The" are ignored. A recognized country, state or element is judged as that name; Austria cannot count as a misspelling of Australia.

The hint ladder

Tap any locked row to aim the hint at it, then press πŸ’‘ Hint. Each press goes one rung up:

  1. A clue β€” something true about the answer, but not the answer.
  2. The shape β€” the first letter of each word, everything else masked.
  3. Reveal β€” the slot is filled in for you.

You get five hint steps per puzzle, and that's it. Each rung costs one step, so a full reveal costs three β€” enough to rescue one answer you were never going to get, not enough to hint your way to 10/10. The button always shows how many you have left.

Revealed answers still count towards your ten, but they are shown separately in your result and marked πŸ’‘ in your share card. A 10/10 with no hints is the real target. Prefer no temptation at all? Turn on hard mode in settings and the hint button disappears.

Streaks and stats

Finishing a puzzle β€” win or lose β€” keeps your streak alive; missing a day resets it. Your stats live on your device, with no account and no sign-in. Replaying an old puzzle from the archive counts towards your category averages, but never towards your streak.

After today's puzzle

One a day is the point, but it isn't a rule. The daily tens archive keeps every past puzzle playable, and unlimited mode deals them at random, back to back, for as long as you want to keep going.

After the game

When the board closes you get the full list, the metric it was ranked by, the data date and a link to the source. If something looks wrong, every puzzle has a report link β€” see the methodology page for how puzzles are built and checked.
